Chamber Member Announcements – June
Senator Lisa Murkowski
Monday, June 30, marks a special date for Alaskans. It was 50 years ago – June 30, 1958 – that the United States Senate capped off a six-day debate and passed the Alaska Statehood Act. President Eisenhower signed the Alaska statehood bill into law on July 7, 1958, and Alaska was formally admitted as a state with full congressional representation by Presidential proclamation on January 3, 1959.
To commemorate this historic occasion, Senator Murkowski and several of her colleagues spoke on the Senate floor this past week, reading from some of the Senate debate speeches and generally wishing Alaska a Happy 50th Statehood anniversary.
For a complete brochure excerpting some of the Senate speeches on our statehood and other enews, visit her website at murkowski.senate.gov.
