Alaska Job Corps Announcement

AJC invites you to join them for an Open House and Community Relations Council Meeting. Alaska Job Corps will display information on career and technical training, academic, residential, and recreation programs. Alaska Job Corps Food Services staff and Culinary Arts students will serve a picnic lunch from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Alaska Family Services Announcement
 
Date of Event: June 21st, 2008

Alaska Family Services, with financial support from the Mat-Su Health Foundation, will be presenting Lighten Up, a summer solstice celebration on June 21st in downtown Palmer. AFS is promoting a celebration of families through healthy living in the Mat-Su Valley. The agency will have carnival booths with games and prizes for the kids. Vendors will have food and items for sale. Headlining the musical program is Medicine Dream playing at 6 pm. Other music, storytellers, and entertainment will also occur throughout the day from3 -10 pm. Please come and celebrate your family with AFS. For more information, call 746-4080.

The Mat-Su Small Business Development Center Workshops
 
July 19 Starting Your Own Business                                                   
This is an informal and interactive workshop discussing how to get started in your own business.  Topics include: licensing, insurance, planning, marketing, and other issues associated with new business start-ups.  Time: 9 am until 1 pm. Cost $25.
 
Jul 22        Basic Bookkeeping                                                     
This workshop is designed to help small business owners understand the number of practical ways to keep sound financial records and discuss how to use that information when making key business decisions.  Time: 9 am – 3 pm. Cost $50.

Visitor Guide early bird deadline approaching – June 20
 
The Mat-Su CVB Visitor Guide is a great tool for members – you reach 125,000 prospective customers for a very reasonable fee. Ad packets were mailed in late May, and the early bird deadline is June 20 – return your information by then and you are entered to win a 1/12th page advertisement for free! New this year, any business that purchases display advertising – from a directory ad to a full-page ad – will be included in an advertiser’s index, which will serve as a quick reference tool for visitors. Members get a free basic listing, and you can add your Web site for $50. Narratives are a great way to showcase your services, and they start at $125 for 30 words. A directory ad adds pizzaz to your listing, and they start at only $170. Casey Ressler has been on the road helping members with the guide packets – if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give him a call at 746-5037!

Mat-Su Borough Announcement
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly allocated bed tax money to complete a Tourism Infrastructure Needs Study. The study has been completed by the McDowell Group and an electronic copy of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Tourism Infrastructure Needs Study is available.  To receive a copy, email Dave Hansen, Economic Development Director, at Dave.Hanson@matsugov.us.
 
The study addresses six areas: a base-case description of the tourism infrastructure in the Borough; a description of Mat-Su visitor markets; an assessment of Borough tourism value; a discussion, including recommendations, for needed tourism infrastructure improvements; responses to specific Borough Assembly questions; and tourism partnering opportunities.
 
The study represents the first time this type of tourism related information and analysis has been brought together in one place. The study provides a starting point for further action to improve tourism infrastructure and increase the tourism related economy.

Valley Performing Arts Announcement

Valley Performing Arts summer arts program focuses on the three areas of musical theatre: dancing, singing, and acting. At the end of the activity-filled, two week program, students will perform on stage for their friends and family! The cost is $150.00 per student. Choose your own session!
